This EP came about by mistake if anything. I had recorded a cover of The Beach Boys' “That's Not Me”, one of the most beautiful songs ever written, recorded during the sessions of my last album Change In Direction as an experiment to see how far I could push my equipment and also to see if I could replicate the original song. I played it to a few friends, and one suggested I do a whole EP of covers. So that is exactly what I did...
All 5 songs are very personal to me for various reasons and are amongst other songs which play on a loop inside my head continuously. They are in my blood.
Along with “That's Not Me”, I decided to cover Ohio Players' “I Wanna Hear From You”, Milton Nacimento's “Maria Tres Filhos” (which also required for me to learn the lyrics in Portuguese, it took some time but I got there in the end!), Yusef Lateef's “Moon Cup” and Mutiny's “The Ballad Of Capt. Hymbad”.
I hope you enjoy listening to this EP as much as I enjoyed making it.
